If you notice any unusual substance in or around a storm drain, or
if you see someone dumping anything into the storm drain, street,
or gutter, into local creeks or the Eel River, or elsewhere in the
outdoor environment, don't wait!
To Report Hazardous Spills
If you find out that hazardous materials have been dumped in the
sewer system, or if you see a strange substance in or around a
storm drain, or if you see someone dumping anything into a storm
drain, call 725-7550 immediately. If a storm drain is clogged
If it is an emergency and flooding appears to be imminent, call
725-7600 or 725-7550.
If a Sewer Line is Blocked
Call the City of Fortuna at 725-7600.
Note: If your drains back up because roots are clogging the sewer
line, use mechanical root removal, not crystal-form root killers
you flush down the toilet. Mechanical root removal is the most
environmentally sound method of controlling roots in sewer pipes.
Crystal-form, copper-based root killers are not as effective as
mechanical removal, and they contribute significant amounts of
copper (which is toxic to marine life) to our local sensitive
ecosystem. |
